HVSA recommends that players play with their birth year age group team which, under normal circumstances, will provide the ideal environment for development; however and in accordance with the Tryouts - Procedures and Guidelines, players are permitted to tryout to “play up” one age group.
Please consider the following when deciding if “playing up” is best for your child and family.
Players who try out for a team are not guaranteed to be offered a spot on the roster.
Is playing up the right choice for your child’s soccer and social development?
Depending on when your child was born, other players may be between 1-2 years older.
Players who are interested in “playing up” are encouraged to attend the tryout for their birth year age group so they are evaluated in relation to same birth-year players.
The table below outlines the age difference between a player’s birth month and the oldest player in the “playing up” age group. For example, a player born in August who decides to “play up” will be 19 months younger than the oldest players on teams they play with and against.
